At times consensus building can be difficult, but it is rarely impossible. First you must recognize that you are not seeking for everyone to agree to everything. The Simplified Strategic Planning process will highlight those areas or issues that have significant impact on the company's future course and direction, and priority should be given to building consensus on those topics. Also, only be concerned about significant differences (as reflected in the rating numbers included in many of the exercises and worksheets). If you do encounter a few topics where no consensus can be gained, put these aside for the moment as potential Strategic Issues where they can be given additional consideration. Teams that have chronic problems in building consensus are certainly candidates for outside assistance.
