A summary for that purpose is not necessary since the CEO must be actively involved in the process from its inception. A company runs many risks in approaching Strategic Planning in any other manner. The basic fact is that since Strategic Planning deals with the future course and direction of the business, it is one of the primary responsibilities of the CEO and should not be delegated. The practical risk is that a summary cannot effectively communicate the true essence of discussions among the management team and will not give the CEO the insight needed for effective leadership and support of the plan. In addition, the CEO's in put during all phases of the process is invaluable. They should certainly avoid dominating discussions, but their perspective should be actively captured along with all other team members.
