Questions and Answers
Should we wait until the Strategic Plan is fully developed before responding to key threats?
In general, it is recommended that all decisions and action be deferred until the latter stages of the Simplified Strategic Planning process. This recommendation is based on the management team's need to have a complete picture in front of them. Having said this, if the impact of a particular threat is assumed to be significant and the threat is imminent, some immediate action may be required. It is important that the team fully understands and has consensus on these points before moving ahead. If necessary, the team can brainstorm potential responses to the threat in the categories of Prevention, Reducing the Impact, Early Warning, Contingency Planning and/or Insurance. This brainstorming may result in the decision to take some action immediately.
